At the age of 28, I found myself carrying some extra weight. I knew I needed to make a change, and that's when I discovered the world of triathlons. As a former skier and gymnast, I already had a foundation in physical fitness. Combining three disciplines into one race intrigued me, and I took the plunge.
My first event was a sprint triathlon. It was one of the most challenging things I had ever done, yet the sense of accomplishment I felt crossing that finish line was unparalleled. That's when I realized I was hooked.
The training was far from easy. Swimming was my Achilles' heel. My speed was slow, and I found myself tiring quickly. But I persisted, putting in countless hours in the pool, pushing myself to improve bit by bit. It was a grueling process, but it taught me the power of perseverance.
One of the most memorable moments in my triathlon journey was a local race in my hometown of Kharkiv. I placed 2nd in my age group during an Ironman 70.3. The support of the local community and the feeling of accomplishment was incredible.
Participating in triathlons has fundamentally changed my life. I've given up drinking, adopted a healthier diet, and my bike has become my constant travel companion. The sport has not only transformed my body, but it has also reshaped my lifestyle.
I am often asked what keeps me motivated. The answer is simple: I love seeing the transformation in my body. I strive to be strong, resilient, and I love the feeling of pushing my limits.
For those new to the sport, I advise finding a balance between triathlon, family, and work. It's a demanding sport but can bring great joy and satisfaction with the right balance. My future goal in triathlon? To participate in the World Championship. I have a long way to go, but the challenge fuels me. Every race and training session brings me closer to that dream.
And so, the journey continues. One stroke, one pedal, one stride at a time.
